Okan Capuk, MD
Okan was a medical graduate from Türkiye where he earned his medical degree at Kocaeli University in 2021. During his time there, he discovered a keen interest in neurology and neuroscience. Shortly after graduating, Okan joined the Sun Lab and actively collaborated with the Begum Lab and Dr. Daryl Fields. Okan was primarily involved with two ischemic stroke subprojects where he investigated the roles of NHE1 and NBCe1 ion channels in astrocytes and pericytes during the recovery and revascularization processes following an ischemic event and the role of the cerebellum in recovery following stroke. Okan aimed to be placed into a resident physician program and was successfully placed in UPMC’s pediatrics residency program. Outside the lab, Okan enjoys activities such as swimming, attending concerts, playing soccer, video games, and traveling.
